The expansion of our nation’s waistline has grown to epidemic proportions. The Cleveland Clinic, ranked as America’s Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, asserts that nearly two thirds of adults in the country are overweight, and 30% are obese.

Obesity increases a person’s risk for a number of serious conditions including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and even some forms of cancer.

1 2-1/2 to 3-lb. broiler-fryer chicken, cut up
Flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/4 cup butter or margarine

Barbecue Safety Tips

It should go without saying that barbecuing can be dangerous. It should, but there always seem to be some who haven’t grasped that grills are hot and tools are sharp.

For some, pointing out the obvious will have no effect. But for others, listing some easy-to-implement protocols can save a burned hand or lost eye. If young children are around, those habits are even more important. They haven’t yet learned that a barbeque is anything more than a big black box.

Early September is the time when everyone wants to take advantage of those last rays of summer. This menu does require pre-preparation in the prep of the spareribs. But, once that is done, the rest of the meal is a snap to finish.

Barbecued Spareribs

Cut 4 pounds of spareribs into 2 or 3 rib portions. Pre-cook ribs in water (to cover) for one hour.

Meal Planning

Do you wait until one hour before dinner to think, “what am I going to cook?”

How about when you go grocery shopping: do you buy something that looks good, only to throw it away because you “never got around to it,” or just plain forgot you had it?

Well, planning your meals ahead of time will eliminate those problems. I used to think that it was “too hard” to plan a week’s meals, prepare the shopping list and gather the recipes. But I’ve since learned that it’s a lot faster in the long run. And really lowers that before dinner stress level!
